WEST’s quest for truly great Scottish beer started in 2006.
Ever since then, WEST has been brewing the finest artisan lagers and wheat beers in the UK. It brews all of its beers in strict accordance with the Reinheitsgebot, the German Purity Law of 1516, which it believes is simply the best way to make great beer.
WEST, under the leadership of Bavarian-born Petra Wetzel, is the only UK brewery to officially adhere to the Reinheitsgebot, merging centuries of traditional practice with state-of-the-art equipment. WEST’s German roots are firmly planted in Glasgow and the company ethos can best be summed up as ‘Glaswegian Heart. German Head’.

Feierabend 4.6% abv Pilsner ‘Dry, grape, gooseberry’
Feierabend is a German word that means to celebrate the end of the day. A sophisticated, hop-focused pilsner brewed using Hallertau Blanc hops that are bursting with gooseberry and grassy flavours that are reminiscent of a Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. Crisp, elegant and fresh with a good bitter backbone, Feierabend is the perfect ‘clocking-off’ pint.
Munich Red 4.9% abv Premium Red Lager ‘Caramel, toasted, ruby’
Just because it’s not yellow in colour, doesn’t mean that this isn’t lager. A high proportion of toasted malted barley gives Munich Red an intense deep-red colour, a creamy smooth body and a sweet biscuit flavour. This is a beer where we let the malts come up front and centre. Although a darker style of lager, we think this might even convert the staunchest ale aficionado.
GPA 5.2% abv German Pale Ale ‘Floral, grassy, delicately hopped’
WEST German Pale Ale is our homage to the IPAs and APAs with their hop-forward styles. A little wheat helps keep GPA light and fresh. We use both German hops, that lend a slight herbal character, and American aroma hops bring flavours of dried lemon, green capsicum and black pepper. With an elegantly dry finish, this is an incredibly well-balanced ale.
Heidi Weisse 5.2% abv Unfiltered Premium Wheat beer ‘Fruity, cloudy, banana’
Every German brewer would have a Hefeweizen that they consider to be world class. At WEST, we are no different. Heidi was our first brewery dog and what better way to remember her than with this beer. Brewed using more than 60% wheat and Hefeweizen yeast, Heidi Weisse is a traditional Bavarian style and so is naturally cloudy with a big mouthfeel. Perle hops give good bitterness and balance. Fermentation at higher temperature brings bunches of banana flavour and clove spiciness.
